My evolution as a website entrepreneur creating a site for personalized plastic cups, did not follow a linear path though I should’ve suspected something when I would spend hours upon hours choosing screen names for mine and my family members’ aol accounts (remember that dial up connection?!?!?).  In fact, in college I took an html class and couldn’t get beyond turning my background pink (a feat of which I was a. very proud of and b. led me to understand I would never become a program developer).  How then, did I come to start not one but several boutique websites that eventually became my full time job?  Why have I landed in the world of plastic cups, stadium cups, personalized cups, customized cups and plastic cups as party favors?  Below, you will find a short history on Jen and how she relates to the personalized stadium cup.

Middle of freshman year of college was the first time I met my advisor, a professor in the paleontology department.  I was a complete mess.  I’d signed up for Introduction to International Relations and found it was a zillion times more miserable than I was hoping it would be (a major disappointment considering my dreams of becoming a fabulously international jetsetter would have to be put on hold).  I was barely passing and I was beside myself.  My very non-helpful advisor told me to suck it up and explained that if I only had 3 credits 2nd semester freshman year, I was setting myself up for 3 more years of failure.  Helpful.

I immediately ran back to my dorm (knocking over some custom stadium cups on the way), flung myself on a friend’s bed and sobbed about how my life was over.  Sweet friends that they are, they calmed me down and gave me a Snickers bar and a glass of wine, albeit out of a plastic cup.  One even mentioned that her dad was an advisor and she was sure he’d be more than happy to take me on as an advisee.   Joy!  I emailed him right away, walked down the hill with my custom plastic cup, went in for an appointment and was thrilled.  He was supportive, helpful and most of all, optimistic.

Returning for classes, sophomore year, I had my profile open and was ready to register for the upcoming semester, “Major: Child Development”.  Apparently, having switched advisors, the system automatically declared my major.  Easy enough to switch if I wanted to but after some deep thought, I figured, hey, why the cup not?

This is how I ended up becoming a teacher.  I did my field-work, I got positions as a teacher after graduating and I put all my time, energy and effort into being the best teacher I could be.  However, I always noticed that I didn’t love it as much as the great ones did (my mom, for example).  I was always a little too relieved when it was Friday and I started to realize it wasn’t fair to me or to my students.

One year, after we’d already moved outside of the country and I’d been teaching internationally for some time, we decided to get married.  Hooray!  We planned our nuptials for US summer since it would make it easier for many of our friends and family members to come down.  Unfortunately, this was smack dab in the school year.  Due to different rules and expectations in foreign international schools, I was expected to hire and pay for my own substitute teacher.  I couldn’t find anyone to do it for the salary I was currently receiving and also continue with lesson planning and exam correcting for the 4 weeks I needed off (with so many people coming early and from abroad, I’d really hoped to be able to spend some time with each of them).  This is when I finally made the decision to end my teaching career.  It sounds as though I came to this decision easily, but trust me, it was weeks and weeks of wild oscillation, lots of wine out of custom plastic cups and many, many budget discussions with my soon to be husband on whether or not we could afford to have me out of work for awhile.

Fast forward 3 years and I’ve been speaking a great deal with a friend of mine who is an internet marketing and advertising wiz.  I tell her how I’d love to create my own web-based business and she asks me why I’m so late in arriving to this decision.  Fifty-seven brainstorms later and a whole lot of character mapping type decision making and I’ve figured out where I want to go with this.  Owning a boutique website is a perfect fit for my family and I and allows me to do what I love on a daily basis; interact with people and help them with their celebrations/provide a little something extra for the exciting events in their lives.

Having been in this business for several years now, it’s funny to say, but I really do love customizing cups.  There’s so many different type of people to speak with who are interested in such a wide variety of decorations, messages and themes for their cups.  It’s never the same thing every day and I find my customers are almost always in such a great mood, it’s hard not to smile all the time (you can’t see me but I swear I usually am!).  Personalized stadium cups make such a great addition to any type of celebration that this is how I ended up coming up with our slogan (well that, and my slight penchant for profanity led me to search for something more appropriate to say in front of our new baby), “Why the cup not?!?”

I hope I can make your occasion for custom stadium cups an enjoyable experience with the end result being a product you love and are proud to show off for years to come.  Please contact us now and let me know what kind of “cupping” difference we can make in your life!
